  change at the ballot box on Nov. 8. Similar to the progressive income tax
  amendment voters rejected in 2020\, Amendment 1 is a constitutional amend
 ment subject to voter approval that includes new taxation. Proponents also
  refer to Amendment 1 as the "Workers' Rights Amendment." Amendment 1 woul
 d add a provision to the Illinois constitution that allows collective barg
 aining to expand beyond typical negotiations over wages and compensation t
 o potentially include social or political demands. Taxpayers will fund the
 se broad new provisions through increased property taxes. Amendment 1 guar
 antees the average Illinois family will pay at least $2\,149 more in prope
