Announces February Calendar - Black History Month Events
January 18, 2023 – The Lombard Historical Society announces February Black History Events at the Sheldon Peck Homestead. Reservations for all events are strongly encouraged and light refreshments will be served. Expect to be enlightened and entertained when you attend the Lombard Historical Society Black History Month events. There will be documentary screenings, lectures, music and storytelling – all at the Sheldon Peck Homestead in February. Reservations for all events are strongly encouraged and light refreshments will be served.
Saturday, February 4 at 2 pm - Join us for a screening of “Sheldon Peck: Portrait of an Ordinary Man in Extraordinary Times,” produced by Tim Frakes Production Inc. with the Lombard Historical Society. Witness the story of Sheldon Peck’s life in the home that he built.
Tuesdays February 7th & 14th from 6 – 7 pm - Enjoy a free guided tour of the Sheldon Peck Homestead. Learn little known details about the Peck family from a staff historian.
Saturday, February 11th at 2 pm - Join us for a screening of “Common Good: The York Center Co-op Story,” a documentary by Tim Frakes Production, Inc. and LHS. On a small network of curving, tree lined streets in Suburban DuPage County, Illinois, rests a collection of homes known today as The York Center Homeowners Association. From 1947 to 2007, these custom, single family homes built on 1 acre plots over ground once occupied by a dairy farm, came to be known as the York Center Co-op.
Saturday, February 18 at 1 pm – Join us for a concert and storytelling with the “Umoja People,” an ensemble drumming band and storytellers.
Friday, February 24 time TBD – Virtual - Karen Anderson, an Illinois Humanities Road Scholar, presents “More Than a Color: The Marginalization of African Beauty Through History.” Her program will inspire others to create their own definition of beauty.
Saturday, February 25 at 2 pm – “Seeking Old Charley” – Hear stories of the Underground Railroad across Illinois, through a freedom seeker named Charley's perspective.
All events are free. Light refreshments will be served, and reservations are encouraged.
